our company

House of Thoth is an independent fantasy publishing house specializing in fantasy and epic fantasy novels (and their sub-genres).

We bring carefully selected stories to print, ebook, and audiobook with professional editing, striking covers, maps, and targeted marketing. Our founder Casey has over a decade of experience in the industry, owns Thoth Editing (home to multiple bestselling clients), has spoken on panels at FanX Salt Lake City, is an ACES sponsor, and currently serves as president-elect of Utah Freelance Editors (a chapter of the League of Utah Writers).

We aim to publish 4–8 titles per year and are actively open to submissions of original, full-length fantasy and epic-fantasy manuscripts.

Submission Guidelines

House of Thoth is currently OPEN to submissions of fantasy and epic fantasy novels.

We are looking for:

  • Full-length novels (80,000–150,000 words; series potential strongly preferred)

  • Fantasy and epic fantasy only (all sub-genres of fantasy accepted)

  • Original work only

  • Adult and upper-YA crossover (no middle-grade or children’s)

What we are especially excited about right now:

  • Standalone novels with series potential

  • Diverse voices and own-voices stories

  • Fresh takes on classic tropes

  • Rich magic systems and intricate politics

How to Submit Please send the following to submissions@houseofthoth.com with the subject line: SUBMISSION – [Book Title] – [Your Last Name]

  1. A one-page query letter including:

    • Genre, word count, and one-sentence hook

    • Brief synopsis (2–3 paragraphs)

    • Short author bio with relevant publishing credits (if any)

  2. The first three chapters (or up to 50 pages, whichever is shorter) in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format

  3. A one- to two-page synopsis of the full novel (spoiler-heavy is fine)

Formatting

  • 12-pt Times New Roman or Arial, double-spaced, 1-inch margins

  • No headers or footers needed

  • One document only, please (do not send separate files)

Response Time We respond to all submissions. Due to volume, please allow up to 6 weeks before querying on status. If you have not heard from us after 6 weeks, feel free to follow up once.

Additional Notes

  • Simultaneous submissions are fine; please let us know immediately if the manuscript is accepted elsewhere.

  • We do not accept submissions via postal mail or attachments sent through social media.

  • At this time we are not open to novellas, short stories, poetry, non-fiction, or genres outside high/epic fantasy.
