Frequently asked questions

Are you currently open to submissions?

Yes – we are currently open to agented and unagented submissions. Full details are on our Submission Guidelines page. Agents should email Casey directly at casey@houseofthoth.com.

What genres do you publish?

We publish fantasy in all its forms, including:

  • High fantasy and epic fantasy

  • Gaslamp / historical fantasy

  • Sword & sorcery

  • Grimdark

  • Romantic fantasy

  • Mythic fantasy

  • Portal fantasy

  • Upper-YA fantasy crossover

We do not publish contemporary/urban fantasy, paranormal romance as the primary genre, science fiction, horror (unless fantasy is the clear driver), litRPG, middle-grade, or children’s books.

Do you publish novellas or short stories?

Not at this time. We focus on full-length novels (typically 75,000–150,000 words).

Will you consider previously self-published books?

Only rarely, and only if rights have fully reverted and the book has been substantially revised. Please disclose the self-publishing history in your query.

Do you offer hybrid or “author-contribution” contracts?

No. We are a fully traditional publisher; authors never pay for editing, design, or production.

When can I expect a response to my submission?

We reply to every submission. Please allow up to 6 weeks. One polite follow-up after 6 weeks is fine.

I’m a debut author with no credits. Can I still submit?

Absolutely—new voices are always welcome.
